Women exhibition cricket game
It was great weekend for WOMEN'S CRICKET DEVELOPMENT OF ONTARIO CRICKET ASSOCIATION. It was outstanding display of technique, skill ,sportsmanship and enthusiasm by national women players and bigginers at MAYOR'S CUP .It was a limited 10 overs cricket exhibition match organized by TORONTO CITY CRICKET CLUB played at Centennial Park-Toronto on June 14th, 2009 .The match was played between Jamrock.....under Captain ship of Ms. Mona Persaud (NATIONAL PLAYER) & Sixers.......under Captain ship of Ms.Vadeo Sproxton.(NATIONAL PLAYER)
The opening ball was pitched by Ms. Susan Hall-Regional Councillor and played by Mr. Mike Kendall-President of OCA.
Sixers won the match by 4 wickets and Ms.Colleen Curtis,Vice President, Excel Funds Management Inc. distributed the trophies to the winning team.
International Women's Cricket and Canada-ICC
Canada defeated USA by 40 runs in its first game of ICC Americas Women's Championship triangular --Recently defending champions Canada took a big step towards retaining its title in the ICC Americas Women's Championship in Florida, USA with a solid 40-run victory over its North American rivals USA. Adding importance to the victory was that it also moved Canada closer to a place in the ICC Americas Qualifiers to maintain its ICC Women's World Cup dream.
Final team placing and regional rankings were as follows:
1. Canada
2. USA
3. Argentina
4. Bermuda
5. Brazil
At the ceremony, the Trinidad & Tobago Development XI, after being thanked for their contribution to the event and women's cricket development in the region, received the Americas T20 trophy.
Final placings in the T20 tournament were:
1. Trinidad & Tobago Development XI
2. Canada
3. Argentina
4. USA
5. Bermuda / Brazil
Individual prize winners were also announced, and these included:
Player of the Tournament: Mona Persaud (Canada)
Best Batter: Dirce Yuli (Argentina)
Best Bowler: Isoline Sutherland (USA)
Best Fielder: Juliana Brito (Brazil)
Best Wicket-keeper: Devika Singh (T&T Development XI)
ICC Americas also announced the twelve players selected to attend a future regional women's training academy, which included: Dirce Yuli, Sofia Retamales, Mercedes Esperon (all Argentina), Jenay Edness, Akeyla Furbert (both Bermuda), Juliana Brito, Luiza Paranhos (both Brazil), Mona Persaud, Meara Crawford, Mikaela Turik (all Canada), Sonakshi Sagar and Candacy Atkins (both USA).
It was an extremely successful tournament, with all teams showing improvement, especially Argentina, which recorded historic T20 wins over Bermuda and USA, as well as a bright debut appearance by fellow South Americans Brazil. It was also pleasing to see the USA make a first appearance at this event, and they finished runners-up to champions Canada. These two teams will now go forward to meet at a future date in a three-match series to determine which of them will represent the Americas region at the next ICC Women's World Cup qualifying tournament.
Regular cricket practiceis scheduled for every Tuesdays and Thursdays 6 p.m to 8 p.m. in the Percival B. Cummings Cricket Grounds On McNicoll Ave, in between Middlefiend Road and McCowan Road in Scarborough. ACCOMPANIED BY QUALIFIED COACHES: Mr.Keith Green, Geoffrey Cross and GEORGE CODRINGTON.
