PCB crowned club champions

OCA 20-Twenty Club Championship finals were played at the Sandalwood/Creditview park grounds, between PCB of T&D and Kingston Cricket Club of Ottawa. Even though the weather was cool, the HOT BATS on both sides provided plenty of fireworks for the fans. Kingston cc were vigorously persuing a formidable total of 233 runs. However at the end of their exciting inning, they fell short of the intended target. The un-defeated PCB of T&D, are the champions of the First OCA 20-Twenty Club Championship Tournament 2009.

Following 8 teams from various OCA member leagues participated: Sunrise CC from SOCA, PCB from T&D; Island Boyz from BCL, Cavalliers from H&D; Crown Taxi from TCA; Scarborough Riders from CPC; Kingston CC from OVCC  and Wanderers from CCCAT. Many exciting matches were contested during the round robin aspect of the tournament; including a cliff hanger between Sunrise and Island Boyz, that had to be decided by a super over play as the two teams ended up with identical score.

The Best Batsman of the tournament was Abdallah Mohammed.....,from Sunrise CC of SOCA. Also from Sunrise, Bahadur Mangat was declared Best Bowler with 9 wickets during the tournament. The MVP of the tournament was Rizwan Cheema who excelled with both the Bat and the Ball.

The President of OCA Mr. Mohan (Mike) Kendall, during the awards ceremony, congratulated both teams for a fine display of the spirit of cricket as a Gentlemen's game. He louded the contribution of Saqib Sheikh, in putting together the whole tournament in less than a week. He also acknowledged and thanked Mr leslie Soobrian, Mr Faraz Saleem and Mr. Yudhvir Jaswal for their timely help in arranging the grounds at a very short notice and subsequently managing the games there as well. A special Thanks went out to Mr. Ghazanfar Mashkoor for managing the Poweraid Ground as well.

Mr. Kendall also thanked the Umpires Ummar Babry and Arnold Ramanjulu for braving the cold weather conditions and doing an excellent job during the finals. Both teams also expressed their appreciation with ovation as well. Mr. Kanti Patel was also thanked for arranging the Umpires at all 4 grounds for both days and was asked to convey the same to all other umpires too.The OCA President also thanked all the league Presidents and guests, who attended the finals; Mr.Leslie Soobrian, Mr. Mohammed Shaikh, Mr. Gullu Bajwa, Mr. Tanveer Sadiq, Mr Melvin John, Mr Faraz Saleem, Mr Parveen Sharma, Mr pavanveer Rana, Mr Varinder..... and many others in attendance.

Finally Mr. Kendall congratulated all teams, coaches and leagues again for a very successful
tournament and wished them success in their Cricketing endevours. For OCA's part Mr.Kendall promised to do everything possible to provide better infrastructure facilities including turf wickets, more improvement in this tournament, addition of another tournament, along  with a few exciting announcements for the next year, in a short while.
The tournament concluded at 6:45 pm.
